{"id":152742,"date":"2011-06-14T22:39:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-14T22:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bc6cbf42-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-06-14T22:39:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-14T22:39:00","slug":"bc6cbf52-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bc6cbf52-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"DPS Fire wins Hard Rock burger eating contest anew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fire division of the Department of Public Safety defended its title during the burger eating contest for the Guns &#038; Hoses event sponsored by Hard Rock Caf\u00e9 in celebration of its 40th Founders Day. <\/p>\n<p>Firefighters Climaco \u201cLittle Rock\u201d Laniyo and John \u201cCrue\u201d Camacho defeated Police Officer 2 Carl Hocog and Police Officer 3 Joey Cruz in gobbling down the most number of burgers. <\/p>\n<p>Laniyo and Camacho won Hard Rock gift certificates and a small trophy. <\/p>\n<p>Camacho, in an interview, said this is his first time to participate in the contest since he was off-island when the same contest was held last year. Last year\u2019s winners, Stuart Peter and Gary Cruz, are the ones who are off-island this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited because we defended the title for those guys,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Camacho thanked Hard Rock Caf\u00e9 for paying tribute to all DPS staff. \u201cIt\u2019s such a great honor,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Challengers Hocog and Cruz, meanwhile, received certificates of participation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two firefighters won because we let them,\u201d Hocog quipped.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWe thank Hard Rock for thinking of us and giving appreciation to our services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Donald Flores, who served as guest speaker for yesterday\u2019s event, expressed amazement that a private business honored the uniformed men and women in the community who serve and protect the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nature of their jobs puts their lives at risk everyday while trying to protect and save others,\u201d said the mayor as he thanked all of them and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Hard Rock staff<\/p>\n<p>Hard Rock personnel also had their own burger eating contest for their female and male employees.<\/p>\n<p>Kitchen staff Rolly Paraiso bested Dennis Fabian and Mikka Valencia after devouring three burgers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoyed it and became very full,\u201d said Paraiso who has been with Hard Rock for five years.<\/p>\n<p>Frenilyn Bautista beat Melinda Solis and April Dela Cruz after almost finishing one burger. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew I would win because I\u2019m a voracious eater,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, the Hard Rock team also uttered a prayer for the two missing sisters, Faloma and Meleina Luhk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe invited everyone but the turnout wasn\u2019t that many because most of the DPS staff are involved in the search efforts for the Luhk sisters,\u201d said operations manager Reynaldo Perez.<\/p>\n<p>Perez said they have been in communication with DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas who expressed his regret that not a lot of their men and women can take part in the event.<\/p>\n<p>According to Perez, they have also provided in-kind donation that will help the DPS staff in their search operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just wanted to give tribute to them.
