A life scout with the CNMI Boy Scouts of America has chosen to do an assessment and recommendation report on the state of five children\u2019s playgrounds on island as part of an Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project.<\/p>\n
In Bum Choo, a junior at Marianas High School, included the Carolinian Village playground, Coral Ocean Point playground, Susupe playground, Pakpak Beach playground, Tanapag playground, and the Paupau Beach playground in his report.<\/p>\n
Choo, 18, conducted the assessment last June 6 to 7 after which he made the report that he submitted to different organizations that play a role in maintaining these playgrounds: the Marianas Visitors Authority, Saipan Rotary Club, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, the 17th Legislature, Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office, and the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the project will benefit the community by fixing up playgrounds for kids and parents because if they fix the play grounds, it would be more safer for kids and won\u2019t get hurt that much and parents won\u2019t have to worry much as the children play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Choo said two other scouts from Troop 913, Richard Defan and Harrison Smith, provided assistance in doing the assessment.<\/p>\n
According to Choo, some of the playgrounds are still in good condition \u201cbut most are in bad shape and need to be checked, taken down, and repaired so people using it won\u2019t get hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n
Boy Scouts island director Cal Reyes said the boy scouts can come in and provide manpower and technical organization should the involved agencies decide to start repair work on the five playgrounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe boy scout leaders and sponsors can also work collaboratively and assess the other playgrounds on like the Dandan playground,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Reyes thanked Troop 913 scout master Val Welch, Advancement Committee chair William Hunter, adult leaders Christina Smith and Shaun Davis, Tony Benavente of Parks and Recreation, and Perry Tenorio of MVA for all their assistance and support for Choo\u2019s project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
