Registration has begun for the Summer Reading & Cultural Fair of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in Susupe.<\/p>\n
The Fair is an annual program that aims to provide fun and educational activities for students during the summer break. This year\u2019s activities include Movie Nights, Humanities Week, Special Guest book readings on Fridays, Homework Center \u2013 Website Research, and Read Aloud & Craft.<\/p>\n
Movie Nights will be held on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6:30pm. Humanities Week, which features lectures on history\/archeology, literature, and art history, will have morning and afternoon sessions. Special guests will make an appearance on Fridays, from 9am to 11am.<\/p>\n
Read Aloud & Craft is scheduled every Saturday and will feature bead making and local dances, among others. The Homework Center \u2013 Website Research is for fourth grade students or older and will have two morning sessions.<\/p>\n
The program, which will run from July 2 to 30, is open for children age 6 to 12 years who have a valid library card and are clear of library obligations. Older children are welcome to participate.<\/p>\n
Those who want to join but do not have a library card may apply for a card by presenting a document that shows proof of address, such as postmarked mail, billings, and a valid ID.<\/p>\n
Jennifer Rospel, acting library executive director, said many regular patrons have already registered as early as June 25 despite the lack of publicity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe usually have a lot of participants in this program every year, sometimes reaching to over 100 students,\u201d she told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
The deadline for registration is July 2.<\/p>\n
The program will culminate with an appreciation and recognition ceremony for participants and sponsors on July 30.<\/p>\n
Rospel encourages the student community to avail of the Summer Reading & Cultural Fair activities, which are for free.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents should take advantage of this program as it serves as a learning experience for children who are on their summer vacation,\u201d she told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
