{"id":153121,"date":"2011-06-28T21:14:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-28T21:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bca100e2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-06-28T21:14:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-28T21:14:00","slug":"bca100f6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bca100f6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Another OAG prosecutor resigning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant attorney general Benjamin Petersburg is resigning from the Office of the Attorney General\u2019s Criminal Division.<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg confirmed yesterday that he is leaving OAG effective August 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really just personal reasons,\u201d said the prosecutor, who refused to elaborate.<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg, who is from Iowa, said he accepted a position as a prosecutor in New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg joined the OAG\u2019s Criminal Division in the middle of June 2010.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great experience. Very positive,\u201d  he said of his brief stint with the OAG. \u201cI wish the office continue its success and all the attorneys continue to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg said he had already spoken with Attorney General Edward T. Buckingham and Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest about his intent to resign. He will formally submit his resignation letter in the next couple of days.<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg\u2019s departure would leave the OAG\u2019s Criminal Division with seven prosecutors, including Ernest.<\/p>\n<p>Petersburg will be the 13th assistant attorney general to leave the OAG during Buckingham\u2019s term as attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, assistant attorney general Meaghan Hassel-Shearer confirmed that her last day of employment with the OAG is the end of July.
