Teachers from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are all invited to participate.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute is a six-session course that provides a comprehensive understanding of NMI history and meets the Public School System history certification requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Topics include Geography and Pre-Contact Culture &#038; History, the Spanish, German, and Japanese colonial periods, World War II and the Naval\/ Trust Territory era, Status Negotiations and the CNMI Constitution, and Current Issues and Cultural Preservation.<\/p>\n<p>These topics will be covered by a number of notable scholars and authors, including Scott Russell, Carlos Madrid, Dirk Spennemann, Don Farrell, Jessica Jordan, Jose Dela Cruz, Brenda Tenorio, and Lino Olopai.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Institute will take place during the month of August. A $100 registration fee includes all course materials and light refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>Registration forms are available at the council office on Middle Road and online at the council website: www.nmihumanities.org.
