Sablan named Salas as an  outstanding employee who dedicated her life to student learning.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner noted the humble beginning of the retiring educator who was hired as a teacher aide in 1982 and was paid just $1.37 per hour. She lauded the perseverance and dedication of Salas who served as classroom teacher, vice principal, and school administrator. All these positions were served at San Vicente Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner admitted that it\u2019s hard to let go of an exemplary educator like Salas.<\/p>\n<p>For Salas, being an educator is not about money. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout my journey as an educator and administrator, I have learned a lot and I have seen a lot of positive changes. Yes, I started at $1.37 cents [back then] but for me it\u2019s not about money.
