Buckingham has named assistant attorney general Gilbert Birnbrich as permanent chief of the Office of the Attorney General\u2019s Civil Division.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Tribune learned that Birnbrich was named acting chief of the Civil Division to replace assistant attorney general Brian Gallagher at the end of April this year. After a month, Buckingham decided to make the appointment permanent.<\/p>\n<p>Gallagher is now assigned at the OAG\u2019s Criminal Division.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cIt\u2019s a very big responsibility and it\u2019s an honor to be appointed. It\u2019s a lot of work,\u201d said Birnbrich in an interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>As chief of the OAG\u2019s Civil Division, Birnbrich will supervise many lawyers and do administrative tasks, while handling his own cases. <\/p>\n<p>Birnbrich used to work as law clerk at the U.S. District Court for the NMI. He later became an associate in attorney Colin Thompson\u2019s law firm.<\/p>\n<p>Birnbrich joined the OAG last year. Among the many cases he has handled is defending the government and other agencies in the lawsuit filed by Friends of Marpi over the installation of power poles in Marpi. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney General Edward T.
