There is no such issue with the appointment of a representative for private school teachers so Inos said a representative can be named soon.

Inos asked the help of Tim Thornburgh, the Public School System’s federal programs officer, in completing the criteria for the selection. He was advised to seek a nominee from the Coalition of Private Schools to make sure the individual has a strong relationship with all private educational institutions.

“I’d like to appoint someone who is a role model to all the private schools,” said Inos.

There are 32 private schools on island, of which 24 are members of the coalition headed by Scott Norman, principal of the Calvary Christian Academy and former private schools’ representative on the board.

Since Norman’s departure from the board in October 2009, his post has remained unfilled. The teachers’ rep position for public schools became vacant when Ambrose Bennett’s term ended in January 2008.

Board member Herman Guerrero said the board hopes to see a new member who is not afraid to speak to the board.

Acting governor Eloy Inos has promised Board Education members and officials that he will appoint a teachers’ representative to the board soon.

[4

post-153531","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
