{"id":155044,"date":"2011-09-13T21:18:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-13T21:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bd5ea657-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-09-13T21:18:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-13T21:18:00","slug":"bd5ea668-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bd5ea668-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Council accepting nominations for Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for the 2011 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards.<\/p>\n<p>This event, held annually in October as a part of CNMI Humanities Month, recognizes outstanding contributions to the humanities by individuals and organizations in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Nominees should have a notable humanities achievement in the past year, as demonstrated in any of the following four categories: Research and Publication in the Humanities, Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices, Preservation of CNMI History, and Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in both classroom and non-classroom settings).<\/p>\n<p>The most prestigious award\u2014Lifetime Achievement\u2014is given to a nominee who has made significant contributions to the humanities over multiple decades. This award may be given posthumously.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010 awardees included Jose Dela Cruz for Research and Publication in the Humanities; Donald Mendiola for Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Don Farrell for Preservation of CNMI History; Sudi Napalan for Outstanding Humanities Teacher; and the late Dr. Pius \u201cMau\u201d Piailug for Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination forms and instructions are available at the Council\u2019s office in the Springs Plaza Building, Gualo Rai, or on the council website at www.nmihumanities.org. <\/p>\n<p>Nominations may be made by any member of the general public and are due no later than 4:30pm on Oct. 11, 2011. <\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact the council office at 235-4785.
