The Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration attributed the success of the 3rd Quarter \u201cFree Health Screening for OFWs\u201d to all volunteers who rendered their services to the Filipino community. <\/p>\n
These volunteers included the Association of Filipino Pharmacists, Bayani Association, Filipino Volunteer Medical Team, Hardt Eye Clinic, and Dr. Nathan Tan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe services went smoothly and were facilitated by the dedication of the volunteers,\u201d said Consul General Medardo Macaraig. \u201cThe Philippine Consulate General extends its deepest appreciation to all volunteers and everyone who, through the years, have rendered valuable services to Filipinos on Saipan.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 3rd Quarter \u201cFree Health Screening for OFWs\u201d was conducted on Sept. 4 at the Filipino Workers Resource Center of the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe. <\/p>\n
The quarterly screening, held from 7am to noon, aims to increase the awareness of Filipino workers on Saipan about diabetes prevention and control, hypertension prevention, and eye\/vision pressure correction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt also fosters the spirit of bayanihan [volunteerism] and camaraderie among Filipinos on Saipan,\u201d added Macaraig.<\/p>\n
Ronan de Ramos, president of Bayani Association, said nine members were present to provide assistance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe volunteer at the Consulate-sponsored health screening regularly because we want to facilitate the screening process and help our fellow Filipinos,\u201d de Ramos told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
Volunteers served a total of 387 Filipino workers at the free health screening, with 316 availing of the blood sugar and blood pressure checkups while the 71 had their vision tested. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a high turnout. I understand also that most of them were new faces,\u201d said Macaraig when asked for comment about the event. <\/p>\n
While it wasn\u2019t part of the schedule, Macaraig noted that they accommodated four passport applications at the screening.<\/p>\n
