Mio Kim topped a field of 15 and was crowned winner of the CNMI Women\u2019s Golf Association\u2019s September tournament held last Sept. 10 at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.<\/p>\n
Kim managed a pair of 42s on the front and back nines to gross an 84, which adjusted out to a 72 net score.<\/p>\n
Runner-up Chang Eun Ae was even with Kim at the turn, but ran into some trouble on the back and finished with a 46 on the back for a gross count of 88. Her handicap put her again even with Kim at a net 72 in the end, but the latter was awarded the top prize.<\/p>\n
Last season\u2019s overall points winner, Shiori Onoue, rounded out the third spot with a solid gross count of 81.<\/p>\n
Onoue hit the turn with a 40 and signed a 41 on the back and ended up with a 75 net tally. Masayo Miyamoto signed an 83 after her 18 holes to also finish with a 75 net score, but Onoue\u2019s handicap served as the tiebreaker. <\/p>\n
Notably, Onoue and Noriko Togawa turned in a day\u2019s best of 81 gross cards, however Togawa had to settle for a ninth place finish.<\/p>\n
According to those in attendance the course conditions were very nice, although it was a little hot out in the sun.<\/p>\n
CWGA\u2019s next event is scheduled for Oct. 8 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort\u2019s west course.<\/p>\n
Kim joins past aces Young In Jeon (May), Sun Suk Kim (June), Miyamoto (July), and Togawa (August).<\/p>\n
The CWGA utilizes a standard net score format, where a predetermined point system is tallied during the season.<\/p>\n
First place is awarded 15 points, 14 for second, and so on down through the Top 10 place finishers, and the rest receive a point for participation.<\/p>\n
Established in March 2007, CWGA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, encourage, and introduce women to the sport of golf in the CNMI. The group plays once a month leading up to its finale two-day event in April.<\/p>\n
