Pacific Islands Club Saipan will have its second \u201cBike for Life\u201d race of the year this Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cBike For Life\u201d is back after its first race five months ago and this time there will be two courses. Besides the regular 50-kilometer course, PIC is also offering a 30-km race. The shorter course will start and end at the southern parking lot of PIC with bikers heading south first, cruising along the airport road, heading up to San Vicente, going down Capital Hill, and then back to PIC through Beach Road.<\/p>\n
The 50-km race will have the same route, but before heading down Capital Hill, riders will go straight to Kagman and then pedal all the way to the tricky road leading to the Kingfisher Golf Links.<\/p>\n
Bikers can use either their MTB or road bikes in the 50-km race, while the 30-km is only for MTB riders. The top finishers in each division will receive $50 cash. Raffle prizes also await bikers.<\/p>\n
Entrance fee is only $12 and the registration and race will start at 5:30am and 6:30am, respectively.<\/p>\n
This weekend\u2019s race aims to raise funds for the fight against cancer, while riders will use the event to prepare for the Hell of the Marianas in December and other future competitions.<\/p>\n
XTERRA World-bound Butch Sublemente and Mieko Carey are the bikers to watch in the \u201cBike for Life.\u201d Sublemente ruled the previous \u201cBike for Life,\u201d timing in at 2:00:21 in the 50-km race and beating Nap Dizon (2:00:34) and Noel Altamirano (2:03:41).<\/p>\n
More than 40 riders joined the April race, but only 30 completed the course.<\/p>\n
Carey missed the first \u201cBike for Life\u201d event of the year, but ruled several women\u2019s division races after that. Last month, she joined Sublemente\u2019s fundraiser, while the latter topped Carey\u2019s own fundraising race last weekend.<\/p>\n
Both Carey and Sublemente are using the series of local races to prepare for next month\u2019s XTERRA World Championship in Maui, Hawaii. Carey is entered in the pro division, while Sublemente is joining the 35 to 39 age group and is hoping to turn pro next year.<\/p>\n
