{"id":155474,"date":"2011-09-29T20:23:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-29T20:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bd6fdf87-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-09-29T20:23:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-29T20:23:00","slug":"bd6fdf9b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bd6fdf9b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC faculty appeals for changes in job contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Board of Regents of the Northern Marianas College has been urged to revise the two-year contracts of its staff to ensure job security.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. John Griffin, the Senate Faculty president and honorary member of the board, told the board yesterday that besides this long-time concern, faculty members are also urging the board to implement a policy it adopted 22 years ago relating to the promotion of personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin said the two-year employment contract policy was established by the board in 1998, while the policy on promotions was adopted in 1989 but was never enforced.<\/p>\n<p>The existing two-year employment contract of NMC personnel stipulates that it can be terminated or not renewed without cause. Griffin appealed for an open-contract that can only be terminated with cause.<\/p>\n<p>NMC has 28 instructors, 46 non-instructional instructors, and 39 part-time instructors.
