{"id":155547,"date":"2011-10-03T20:04:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-03T20:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bd70b4bb-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-10-03T20:04:00","modified_gmt":"2011-10-03T20:04:00","slug":"bd70b4cc-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bd70b4cc-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Changes in Medicaid, Medicare in the offing\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Office on Aging director Rose Mondala informed congregates of the Aging Center last week about possible changes in Medicaid and Medicare programs following a visit from the programs\u2019 representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Medicaid is a federal health program for low-income U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents and is jointly funded by state and federal governments while Medicare provides health insurance coverage to people who are aged 65 and over; to those under 65 who are permanently physically disabled or who have a congenital physical disability; or to those who meet other special criteria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m giving you a little heads up that there might be changes coming down but we don\u2019t know yet what these changes are for sure,\u201d Mondala told some 50 senior citizens on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Mondala told Saipan Tribune that she met with one official from Medicaid and two from Medicare who all visited the Aging Office last Sept. 28. <\/p>\n<p>According to Mondala, the Medicaid and Medicare officials \u201cjust checked\u201d on the man\u2019amko at the center and \u201cvisited the hospital and every clinic on island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mondala could not, however, provide details on what actually transpired during her meeting with the officials. She did point out, though, that there\u2019s \u201cno need to panic\u201d among senior citizens who benefit from either or both programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just have to wait. The feds are moving in slowly but surely. I don\u2019t want you to panic. They will let us know later of any changes,\u201d said Mondala.<\/p>\n<p>As she addressed the senior citizens last week, Mondala asked who among them were green card holders.
