The Lady Geckos of Saipan International School started their Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization girls high school basketball season with a 40-31 victory over the Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus on Tuesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.<\/p>\n
Amber Roberts paced SIS with eight points in the opening 10 minutes to help her team build an early 13-9 advantage.<\/p>\n
Roberts then added eight more in the second period to single-handedly put SIS ahead, 21-17, at halftime.<\/p>\n
KHS\u2019 Elilai Pialug mustered seven points for the Lady Ayuyus in the first half.<\/p>\n
Pialug led a rally with six points in the third quarter to put the Lady Ayuyus in front by a bucket, 27-25, heading into the fourth and final quarter. <\/p>\n
SIS\u2019 shooters went cold after the break and were limited to just four points in the period.<\/p>\n
SIS\u2019 Zoe Jewell then found her rhythm in the clutch with eight markers to go with Roberts\u2019 six points as SIS ran away with it in the end.<\/p>\n
SIS\u2019 defense stuffed KHS to just a pair of baskets in the final period.<\/p>\n
Roberts led the field with 22 points, while KHS\u2019 Pialug managed 13 markers in the loss.<\/p>\n
The season continues tonight at the MHS Gym at 4:30pm with MHS hosting Saipan Southern High School in a junior varsity duel, followed by the varsity pairing at 5:30pm.
