The lack of a sewer system is hampering the construction of the dog shelter facility at its proposed site in Lower Base Drive, according to Mayor Donald G. Flores. <\/p>\n
He said there was no existing sewer system in place at the site, which used to be occupied by a small garment manufacturer called Saipan Manufacturer’s Inc.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was anticipating that it [sewer] was in front of the building and the latest report and inspection from [Commonwealth Utilities Corp.] is that there is no sewer system in place there,\u201d Flores told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
Besides the lack of sewer system, Flores said they are also waiting for permits from concerned agencies such as the Zoning Office, the Division of Environmental Quality, and CUC.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have done everything in our part such as submit our requests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the need for the sewer system, Flores said they would ask CUC to start work on addressing the situation.<\/p>\n
Unless the sewer system is in place, he said the memorandum of agreement between the Mayor\u2019s Office and the Northern Marianas Trades Institute, whose students will help in the construction of the actual facility, will not be finalized.<\/p>\n
Flores said that he will soon meet again with NMTI officials and representatives to continue discussions on the MOA and the construction of the facility, which would follow a design approved by the Department of Public Works.<\/p>\n
