Gov. Benigno R. Fitial appointed Vicente Castro Camacho yesterday to serve as director for the Military and Veterans Affairs Office. <\/p>\n
A native son of the CNMI, Camacho is a retired U.S. Army sergeant first class and former executive assistant for the Pentagon\u2019s Chief Information Office. The new director also holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in Business Management from Hamilton University. <\/p>\n
This latest appointment fills the vacancy that came as a result of the retirement of Ruth A. Coleman. Since the former director\u2019s retirement, the Fitial administration had been considering potential individuals who would be able to take charge of tending to the needs of servicemembers and veterans. <\/p>\n
\u201cI am pleased that Mr. Camacho has decided to return home and expressed a great deal of interest to help our military community as the head of the Military and Veterans Affairs Office. He served the U.S. Army on active duty for 20 four years and even after his retirement, he took on professional civilian jobs with both the Navy headquarters and the Pentagon,\u201d said Fitial. \u201cLt. Gov. Inos and I are confident that he will serve our community of military personnel and veterans to the best of his ability.\u201d <\/p>\n
Camacho is considered a highly decorated service member. His professional background includes 14 years of Joint Military staff service, four years of Combined Military Forces service and six years of regular Army staff service. He was also the recipient of two Defense Meritorious Medals, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, three Joint Service Achievement Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, seven Army Good Conduct Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
