Scores of Catholic devotees, young and old, gathered at Mount Carmel Cathedral at noon Saturday to pray the rosary and sing religious songs as part of a nationwide rally of over 7,000 gatherings for the 2011 Public Square Rosary Crusade.<\/p>\n
The annual international Public Square Rosary Crusade is spearheaded by America Needs Fatima, a campaign of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property, which aims to win the heart and soul of America for Mary by spreading Our Lady of Fatima\u2019s message and promoting devotion to Her Immaculate Heart.<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s rosary rally\u2014organized by Sr. Ma. Estela Altea, SJBP, Escolastical Cabrera, and Dr. Celia B. Lamkin\u2014saw the participation of diocese parishioners, including students under the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine weekly classes.<\/p>\n
Altea said the public square rosary commemorates the 94th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun or when Our Lady of Fatima performed a miracle witnessed by 70,000 people on Oct. 13, 1917.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are continuing to propagate this purposely for the conversion of sinners, especially for America because of so many things, many crimes happening,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The 81-year-old Cabrera said that the community especially needs to pray for the younger generation, most of whom do not find time to pray even for only 30 minutes but are able to watch television and surf the Internet.<\/p>\n
Cabrera said she is pleased that many students took part in the public square rosary. \u201cIt\u2019s very good. I know the Blessed Mother is also happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lamkin, meanwhile noted the importance of spreading Our Lady of Fatima\u2019s message to have peace not only in the local community but in the whole world.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we all know, there\u2019s a lot of wars going on and for the reparation of our sins,\u201d Lamkin told Saipan Tribune. \u201cAlso, we would like to pray for our Commonwealth, our leaders, and our economy. So we\u2019re hoping for the best for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
