The Senate and the House of Representatives believe the entry of GTA Services, LLC to the local telecommunications industry will result in lower rates and better services.<\/p>\n
In a letter to Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission chair Viola Alepuyo, Senate President Paul A. Manglona (Ind-Rota) said he fully supports the Guam-based company\u2019s entry to the CNMI telecoms market.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo long as GTA supplies and maintains quality telecommunications on all Commonwealth islands, it has the Senate\u2019s full support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Manglona added that by creating an open market and competition between telecommunication carriers, \u201cbetter services and more affordable prices will passed on to consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said further proof of the upper chamber\u2019s support of GTA is its passage of Senate Resolution 17-51 in May 2011, expressing its full support of GTA Services.<\/p>\n
House Speaker Eli D. Cabrera (R-Saipan) said he welcomes any new business that comes into the CNMI, especially if it will create competition and ultimately lower rates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always good to have more competition and it will bring down rates. We welcome GTA\u2019s entry to the islands telecoms industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Fitial administration seconded Manglona and Cabrera\u2019s comments about GTA joining IT&E, Docomo Pacific, and iConnect in the local telecoms industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe administration welcomes all new meaningful investments into the CNMI. The priority of the administration is economic development and the creation of more job opportunities for our people. While we are not privy to GTA’s rates for its services, we certainly welcome the idea that our people will have additional options when it comes to telecommunications services.
