The number of tickets sold this year for the 23rd Annual American Red Cross Club 200 saw a slight increase compared to last year, according to executive director John Hirsh.<\/p>\n
From the 1,354 tickets sold last year, Hirsh said they sold a total of 1,385 this year. Each ticket costs $100.<\/p>\n
Ticket sales for the treasure chest raffle also increased by about 67 percent this year, from $3,000 last year to $5,000 this year, Hirsh said. Tickets for the treasure chest cost $10 each.<\/p>\n
He described this year\u2019s outcome of the American Red Cross NMI Chapter\u2019s biggest fundraising event as \u201camazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou would think we would\u2019ve done a lot worse but we did better. We\u2019re really pleased. I think, in general, people [on] the islands are very generous and we all know that everyone is always willing to extend their help for people that are in need. Despite suffering and having to make personal sacrifices, people are still willing to reach out and help other people so that\u2019s really nice,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
While the event saw an increase in ticket sales, Hirsh said that their proceeds will be \u201ca bit lower than last year\u201d owing to the reduction in the corporate donations they received. <\/p>\n
Hirsh said they used to receive a lot of support from Retirement Fund investment companies, which did not donate this year.<\/p>\n
According to Hirsh, they usually get up to $15,000 from these investment companies. \u201cThat\u2019s unfortunate,\u201d said Hirsh. \u201cWe really couldn\u2019t have predicted that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, Hirsh said, they\u2019re pleased and feel fortunate that the community continues to support the local chapter. He thanked all ticket buyers and sellers, donors, staff, board members, and volunteers for their participation in the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is really a team effort. That\u2019s kind of the nature of how we raise money here in the Commonwealth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
