{"id":157388,"date":"2011-12-14T21:42:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-14T21:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bdbe3bd2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-12-14T21:42:00","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T21:42:00","slug":"bdbe3be3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bdbe3be3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"DPS steps up campaign against drug abuse among youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Public Safety is working on ways to address the drug problem in the Commonwealth, which is already claiming victims among the youth, according to Commissioner Ray Mafnas.<\/p>\n<p>Mafnas on Tuesday described abuse of drugs such as crystal methamphetamine hydrochloride or \u201cice\u201d and other controlled substances as \u201ca very serious issue\u201d and a \u201ccommunity problem\u201d in the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat it does is it hurts children and innocent people and destroys the very core of our American family,\u201d said Mafnas.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, drug abuse leads to other issues such as domestic violence cases.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed particular alarm and concern that the problem has now reached schools.<\/p>\n<p>He said there are new instructors and officers being trained for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education or DARE program of the DPS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are doing is we are certifying these individual young officers to become instructors.
