{"id":157493,"date":"2011-12-19T18:58:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-19T18:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bdbfdab3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2011-12-19T18:58:00","modified_gmt":"2011-12-19T18:58:00","slug":"bdbfdaca-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bdbfdaca-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC faculty senate president Griffin retires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Marianas College business department chair and the institution\u2019s senate faculty president Dr. John Griffin has retired after two years of working for the college.<\/p>\n<p>He told Saipan Tribune yesterday that his retirement will take effect on Feb. 17. Griffin said his family will relocate to San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, promised to come back to the islands for occasional visits in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin said John Cook will serve as acting faculty senate president when he steps down in February until a new leader is elected next month.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin became the business department chairperson in February 2010, replacing Eric Plinske who retired in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin began his employment at NMC as an instructor and department chairperson, initially on Rota and later on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>He described all the years he served NMC as a \u201cfabulous experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Griffin is also a retired U.S. Naval commander with more than a dozen awards and decorations during a quarter century of active duty with service from Vietnam to Iraq.  <\/p>\n<p>He has also more than three decades of collegiate undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in such places as Japan, Puerto Rico, Florida, Cuba, and the Marianas.  <\/p>\n<p>Griffin received a bachelor degree in General Studies in Business from the University of Maryland, a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University in Malibu, a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Troy State University in Alabama, and a Doctorate of Business Administration from University of Sarasota in Florida. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Marianas College business department chair and the institution\u2019s senate faculty president Dr. John Griffin has retired after two years of working for the college.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-157493","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/157493","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=157493"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/157493\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=157493"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=157493"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=157493"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
