WASHINGTON, D.C.\u2014Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo last week announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the Guam Housing & Urban Renewal Authority (GHURA) $879,424 in Federal financial assistance. The funds were made available through HUD\u2019s Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance programs for Fiscal Year 2011. <\/p>\n
CoC programs include the Supportive Housing program, Shelter Plus Care program, and the Section 8 moderate rehabilitation for Single Room Occupancy dwellings for homeless individuals. These programs provide funding and assistance to homeless persons, including transitional housing and permanent housing support services. <\/p>\n
-$313,363 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s Guma Hinemlo\u2019 program. This program aims to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing living environment for residents and provides assistance in obtaining a higher level of self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n
-$171,852 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s Aftercare Housing program, a tenant-based shelter plus care housing voucher program that aims to provide homeless men with disabilities an avenue to promote self-sufficiency. <\/p>\n
-$161,448 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s Housing First Rental Assistance program. <\/p>\n
-$125,415 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s Oasis Empowerment Center, which addresses the critical need of homeless women with substance abuse and\/or dependency. <\/p>\n
-$79,082 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) program. This digital database builds a system of care to address homelessness on Guam. <\/p>\n
-$28,224 was awarded to GHURA\u2019s CARIDAD Supportive Services program, which provides case management, information and referral services, counseling, and life skill training for adults with disabilities who have difficulties obtaining permanent housing and financial stability. <\/p>\n
