Three players were recognized in the awards ceremony for the 2011 Saipan Soccer School Youth Futsal League after scoring the most goals in the inaugural competition.<\/p>\n
Receiving the Golden Boot awards last Monday at the lobby of the Saipan Grand Hotel were Astig Futsal\u2019s Kyla Ito and Tanapon Unsa and the Thundercats\u2019 Brian Lee. Ito collected 17 goals to top the girls U17 division, while Unsa led in the boys U15 division with his 20 goals. Lee played in the boys U18 and earned a field\u2019s best eight goals. Each awardee received medals from league coordinators Angie Ito and Jershwin Angeles.<\/p>\n
Ito and Angeles also handed out fair play awards to boys U15\u2019s Shirley\u2019s Boys, girls U17\u2019s Go Green Team, and boys U18\u2019s Mean Machine. Then the awards night was capped with the presentation of perpetual trophies to the champions of the three age group.<\/p>\n
Members of IT&E were first to go up the stage to receive their U18 trophy, followed by the Astig Futsal\u2019s girls U17 and boys U15 teams. IT&E topped the boys U18 after posting a 5-1-0 win-draw-loss record in the three round-robin contest, besting the Thundercats and Mean Machine. Astig Futsal\u2019s teams in the boys U15 and U17 were also undefeated. The Astig Futsal female strikers swept Ayuyu and Go Green Team in three rounds, while the former\u2019s male players prevailed over Shirley\u2019s Boys, Konflikt, and We-D-Fly twice.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, SSS president Jerry Tan was also present at the awards ceremony and delivered the event\u2019s opening remarks. He thanked all teams for participating in the inaugural league and bowed to host more competitions for the youth this year.<\/p>\n
Tan added that although rules of futsal are very much different from the regular soccer being played at the pitch, playing the former still helps develop players\u2019 skills, specially in dribbling and passing.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlayers learn techniques they could also apply in soccer pitches, so we will continue to hold futsal leagues, not only for our youth players, but also for the men and women to help develop our players.
