Somorang, 42, was arrested on Wednesday for burglary and theft. His bail was set yesterday at $5,500 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on Jan. 26 at 9am.

Superior Court associate judge Kenneth Govendo ordered Somorang to stay away from the victim, XO Market, and its manager.

Police said that an officer had responded to XO Market in Chalan Lau Lau on Jan. 10 after police received a call about a burglary and theft incident.

According to the victim, she had parked her company vehicle at XO Market and when she returned to the car at 2pm her purse was already gone.

When police and the store’s manager reviewed the video footage of the surveillance camera, they saw the image of a man walking to the front window of the vehicle, looking inside, and then going to the driver’s side. The man opened the door, entered the vehicle, and grabbed a purse. He then closed the door and left.

The manager identified the man as Somorang, who stays across the store and likes to stand outside the store for hours.

That night, police proceeded to Somorang’s house and arrested him. The victim’s purse was recovered from the suspect’s house. Somorang allegedly admitted to taking the purse from the parked vehicle.

Somorang was later released from jail as the case was placed under further investigation.
