Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman rejected yesterday a bid to modify the bail conditions of a 41-year-old man who is charged with sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl on Tinian since she was 8 or 9.<\/p>\n
Wiseman said he would not allow suspect John Ibanez Carreon to reside on Tinian and place the girl in possible harm\u2019s way.<\/p>\n
After being told of Wiseman\u2019s concern, Carreon, through assistant public defender Benjamin Petersburg, asked for a continuance in order to find a Saipan resident who will act as his third-party custodian. The judge agreed to the continuance and remanded Carreon back to custody.<\/p>\n
There is a $50,000 cash bail for Carreon\u2019s temporary release.<\/p>\n
Carreon, through counsel, wants to modify the bail by allowing him to post a $5,000 cash and $45,000 in unsecured appearance bond. The defense counsel also proposed a Tinian friend of Carreon to serve as third-party custodian.<\/p>\n
Assistant attorney general Russell Lorfing opposed the motion. <\/p>\n
Police arrested Carreon last Jan. 25 on charges of sexual abuse of a minor and child abuse.<\/p>\n
Detective Barbara Arend stated in her report that a concerned citizen called last Jan. 23 about a sexual abuse victim who wanted to die. Arend said she immediately conducted an investigation that led to Carreon\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
