Police arrested Tuesday noon an ex-convict who was allegedly found last month in possession of methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d at a secluded beach in Susupe.<\/p>\n
Joseph A. Crisostimo, 38, was arrested for illegal possession of controlled substance and contempt of court.<\/p>\n
In issuing the arrest warrant, Superior Court associate judge Kenneth Govendo found probable cause only on the possession of \u201cice\u201d and contempt of court charges.<\/p>\n
At yesterday\u2019s hearing, Superior Court associate judge Joseph N. Camacho found probable cause to deem Crisostimo\u2019s arrest as justified.<\/p>\n
Camacho appointed the Office of Public Defender to represent the defendant and imposed a $31,000 cash bail for his temporary release.<\/p>\n
Preliminary hearing will be on Feb. 23, 2012 at 9am.<\/p>\n
Testifying for the prosecution, police detective Steven Castro stated that two police officers were conducting a routine patrol at a secluded beach site in Susupe on Jan. 11 at 3:18am when they saw a white car with license plate ACN-712. The officers approached the vehicle and met with the occupants: Crisostimo and John Namauleg.<\/p>\n
One of the officers saw a clear glass pipe with residue in the back seat. The officers searched the vehicle and allegedly recovered Ziploc baggies as well as a cut off straw.<\/p>\n
The officers then arrested the two suspects.<\/p>\n
Castro said that on Tuesday he and another detective spoke to Namauleg, who admitted that Crisostimo picked him up in Afetnas last Jan. 11.<\/p>\n
Castro said that, according to Namauleg, they went to As Lito where Crisostimo purchased \u201cice\u201d and then proceeded to a beach in Susupe to smoke the drugs.<\/p>\n
At this time, the two officers came and arrested them.<\/p>\n
Castro said that on Tuesday he and another detective tested the residue in the clear glass pipe and found the presence of \u201cice.\u201d<\/p>\n
