Athletes, sports fans, and visitors who go to the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in Susupe can feel safer knowing that the sporting complex is better equipped with lifesaving tools in the event of an emergency.<\/p>\n
The Division of Sports and Recreation received two first aid kits from the American Red Cross-Northern Mariana Islands Chapter on Wednesday, Feb.15, making the CNMI community safer and better prepared in the event of an emergency.<\/p>\n
Sports and Recreation director Joseph Attao accepted the first aid kits on behalf of his agency.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are grateful for the contribution from the Red Cross,\u201d Attao said. \u201cThe first aid kits will help the players and coaches tend to injuries that may arise during a game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Red Cross\u2019 Health and Safety manager Kennedy Benjamin was there to hand the kits over.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the support and generosity of the NMI community, the Red Cross is able to do projects such as this,\u201d Benjamin said. \u201cI feel that everyone who comes to the Ada Gym will benefit from having the first aid kits around because minor wounds will be able to be treated on the spot.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the CNMI baseball league starting this weekend, as well as a track and field session for the Chuukese Association, the first aid kits could not have come at a better time, Attao said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlayers are vulnerable to cuts and bruises out on the baseball field, and runners can tend to blisters and other foot injuries,\u201d Attao said.<\/p>\n
In addition to the two first aid kits, ARC has also provided the gym with an automated external defibrillator and has trained the gym staff in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use an AED.<\/p>\n
Just like the AED, the first aid kits will be made available when any of the gym facilities are in use, Attao said.<\/p>\n
