The Public School System has a new permanent associate commissioner, a position that has been vacant for many years.<\/p>\n
Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan confirmed with Saipan Tribune yesterday that Glenn Mu\u00f1a was appointed to the position on Feb. 6. <\/p>\n
Mu\u00f1a is a former principal of Oleai Elementary School. Jack Sablan takes over as principal of Oleai school.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very happy with his appointment. Glenn was appointed on Feb. 6 and he went through an extensive interview process. This is an internal competitive position we opened to anybody in PSS to apply,\u201d Sablan told Saipan Tribune yesterday.<\/p>\n
According to Sablan, Mu\u00f1a was one of two applicants who went through a rigorous interview process with four different panels.<\/p>\n
Mu\u00f1a takes over the post vacated last year by former acting associate commissioner for administrative services Peter Leau.<\/p>\n
David Borja was the last associate commissioner to occupy the post in a permanent capacity. He left the post to become the education commissioner, the post now occupied by Sablan.<\/p>\n
Sablan disclosed that since Leau\u2019s departure, the post has been announced internally. She said the human resource office got four inquiries but only two actually submitted formal applications. The two candidates were interviewed by a panel of administrators, a panel of instructional staffers, a panel of the education board members, and a panel of the HR and finance and budget offices.<\/p>\n
Sablan is confident that Muna\u2019s more than seven years\u2019 experience will aid him in his new job. His functions include overseeing emergency management at PSS, procurement office, students\u2019 nutrition program, pupil transportation, capital improvement project office, data management, and E-Rate and network programs, among others.<\/p>\n
