The Philippine Consulate General is looking at highlighting the students of its Tailoring and Dressmaking Batch 2 in this year\u2019s celebration of Philippine Independence Day in June.<\/p>\n
Students in other courses such as Building and Fixing Computers and Culinary classes were featured in past celebrations.<\/p>\n
Consul General Medardo Macaraig said that this time, the Tailoring and Dressmaking students will have the spotlight and have their creations presented in a fashion show.<\/p>\n
Macaraig said this would motivate the students to do well in their classes and, at the same time, acknowledge and recognize their talent and hard work.<\/p>\n
Welfare officer Julie Fabian, in a separate interview yesterday, said a total of 15 individuals signed up for the Tailoring and Dressmaking class but a few have been missing a session or two because of part-time jobs or other personal errands. The class is under instructor Domingo Del Rosario.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why we plan to invite our batch 1 graduates to have more individuals join us during our Philippine Independence celebration so we can showcase more creations from our up-and-coming tailors and dressmakers,\u201d said Fabian.<\/p>\n
The classes are offered by the Consulate with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.<\/p>\n
In other news, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration signed up a total of 489 members in February.<\/p>\n
Fabian said this is their highest number of new applications and renewal of membership in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n
They are also working on following up with several companies that have asked for an OWWA presentation for their Filipino employees.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be doing that after we\u2019re done with our free health screening on Sunday,\u201d she told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n
