The luxury cruise ship Queen Mary 2 will dock at the Port of Saipan on March 15 with some 4,000 people aboard, of which 2,400 are passengers and 1,600 are crewmembers, Saipan Chamber of Commerce executive director Richard Pierce said yesterday.<\/p>\n

The voyage starts from Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, then to Rabaul in Papua New Guinea on March 12, before reaching Saipan on March 15. <\/p>\n
Pierce said Queen Mary 2 will arrive on Saipan around 5am and leave the same day.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will be here for about 14 hours. We would have thousands of passengers all over the place and there won\u2019t be enough taxis around, among other things,\u201d Pierce said.<\/p>\n
That is why the Chamber of Commerce is encouraging its membership and residents to be on the watch for those wishing a ride from Charlie Dock to downtown Garapan and tourist sites when Queen Mary 2 arrives at Charlie Dock on March 15, a Thursday. <\/p>\n
\u201cQueen Mary 2 carries over 4,000 aboard, and SCC welcomes all visitors to Saipan to shop, eat and enjoy the island\u2019s attractions,\u201d Pierce said in a separate statement.<\/p>\n
From Saipan, Queen Mary 2 will be heading to Osaka and Nagasaki in Japan, before going to Shanghai and Hong Kong in China, and then to Phu My in Vietnam, and Laem Chabang in Thailand.<\/p>\n
The 1,132-ft.-long Queen Mary 2 is owned by U.K.-based Cunard, which prides itself as having \u201cthe most famous ocean liners in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cunard describes Queen Mary 2 on its website as \u201cthe most magnificent luxury ocean liner ever built.
