The girlfriend of a police officer who allegedly beat her up last year has written a letter asking Superior Court presiding judge Robert C. Naraja to drop her complaint.<\/p>\n
The girlfriend stated in the letter that she personally hand-delivered her withdrawal letter on Aug. 25, 2011, to the Office of the Attorney General\u2019s Criminal Division in reference to the criminal case against police officer Jerome A. Reyes.<\/p>\n
The girlfriend said at the Aug. 29, 2011, arraignment hearing, a government prosecutor did not bother to mention that she\u2019s made a request to withdraw her complaint.<\/p>\n
This was what prompted her to write the letter to Naraja, she said. The letter, dated Sept. 1, 2011, was notarized and included in the criminal case file against Reyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe AG\u2019s Office disregarded my withdrawal request and I was not afforded to speak for myself during the hearing even though I was present at such time,\u201d the girlfriend said.<\/p>\n
Although the arraignment is already done, the girlfriend said she wants Naraja to accept her plea in withdrawing her case against Reyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand that Mr. Reyes\u2019 action is not acceptable by law and by our Catholic beliefs and I truly don\u2019t condone it. However, I do believe in forgiveness and I believe in giving Mr. Reyes a second chance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She added that she strongly believes that Reyes is sorry for what he\u2019s committed and is willing to get the help he needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do kindly request your honor to consider dismissing my case for the sake of my family and most especially my daughter, who also forgives him for what he\u2019s committed,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Last Monday, a status conference was conducted before Naraja. The judge continued the status conference on April 9, 2012 at 1:30pm.<\/p>\n
Reyes had entered a not-guilty plea to charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.<\/p>\n
A detective stated in his report that Reyes beat up the girlfriend in the presence of her 9-year-old daughter at their apartment last Aug. 13. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
