The public is invited to a presentation by retired Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden at 1pm today at the Visitors Center Theater of the American Memorial Park<\/p>\n
Snowden will discuss his memories of the World War II battles for Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima and field questions from the audience. <\/p>\n
He will be joined by Pam Marvin, widow of the late actor Lee Marvin, who was also a Saipan combat veteran.<\/p>\n
Snowden enlisted in the Marine Corps just after Pearl Harbor and was commissioned a second lieutenant in July 1942. He subsequently fought in some of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific Theater as a platoon and company commander.<\/p>\n
In addition to World War II, Snowden also served in Korea and Vietnam and concluded his military career as chief of staff of Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C. <\/p>\n
This event is a part of the Northern Marianas Humanities Council\u2019s Community Lecture Series. It is open to the public and free of charge.<\/p>\n
