A motorist reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving along Beach Road in Susupe, causing his car to swerve and hit two vehicles that were parked at the Joeten Shopping Center compound yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Saipan Tribune learned that the driver, Leslie Debrum, described as in his 50s, later passed away.<\/p>\n
Debrum\u2019s lone passenger\u2014his 8-year-old granddaughter\u2014suffered minor bruises on her legs and feet, witnesses said.<\/p>\n
Witnesses and police said that Debrum was driving a white Ford Ranger going south on Beach Road when he apparently suffered a heart attack as the vehicle was approaching the intersection in front of the Saipan World Resort.<\/p>\n
After passing the intersection, Debrum\u2019s vehicle swerved to the left, toppling a 14-foot palm tree on the center island of the road.<\/p>\n
The car then crossed to the opposite side of the road and entered the compound of Joeten Shopping Center where it crossed an island and struck the left side of a parked Toyota vehicle.<\/p>\n
Debrum\u2019s vehicle continued to move, leveling a bougainvillea plant and then hitting the right side of a Toyota Hilux that was parked near the restaurant Dish of Saipan. <\/p>\n
The strong impact caused a big dent on the right side of the Toyota Hilux. Its two rear wheels were displaced.<\/p>\n
Astonishingly, Debrum\u2019s vehicle suffered only moderate damage to the right front bumper side. <\/p>\n
Medics responded and brought Debrum and his granddaughter to the Commonwealth Health Center. <\/p>\n
At the scene, medics and police officers noticed that Debrum already had no pulse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
