Radio station KKMP, one of the title sponsors for the 2012 Marianas March Against Cancer, and its foundation launched a signature campaign aimed at raising awareness regarding childhood cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cBe Bold\u2026 Go Bald\u201d seeks to raise at least $1,440 by holding a daily radio-thon on 92.1FM and 1440AM to accept pledges from community members willing to donate funds for the fight against cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cChildren struck with cancer are among the bravest human beings on earth,\u201d KKMP said in a statement. \u201cThey face their bleak futures with faith, love, joy, and most of all hope. They endure many long hours of cancer treatments, tests, nausea, and illness all the while giving comfort and encouragement to their parents, families, and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once the target amount of $1,440 is reached, KKMP owners Rosemond Blanco Santos and Gary Sword and staffer Gordon Marciano will shave their heads and go bald live on stage at the MMAC event for children battling cancer.<\/p>\n
KKMP also encouraged other willing individuals to join them by shaving their heads.<\/p>\n
According to KKMP, children undergoing chemotherapy lose their hair and endure curious looks from people, making them feel ashamed to go in public.<\/p>\n
There is no need to be ashamed, KKMP said, as they will stand by these children and be bald. \u201cBald is beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are asking you to stand with us and these kids by donating to team KKMP for MMAC,\u201d the station added.<\/p>\n
Catherine Attao-Toves, overall chair for the 2012 MMAC Committee, thanked the staff and management of KKMP for their \u201cunique\u201d campaign in support of cancer awareness efforts in the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir creative campaign is truly appreciated. We encourage our community to join their \u2018Be Bold\u2026 Go Bald\u2019 campaign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Attao-Toves also thanked KKMP for their generous support to this year\u2019s event, having donated $3,000 worth of free commercial airtime and in-studio interviews to promote MMAC. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey will also provide live on-site remote coverage the night of the MMAC as well as medical supplies for cancer patient use,\u201d she added, referring to KKMP.<\/p>\n
MMAC is the largest cancer fundraising event in the NMI and the signature fundraising activity of the volunteer-led, non-profit organization Commonwealth Cancer Association.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s MMAC marks the 10th anniversary of the event slated for April 27 to 28 from 6pm to 6am at the Hopwood Jr. High School field in Chalan Piao.<\/p>\n
