The Zoning Board officially welcomed two new employees of the Zoning Office during its meeting yesterday.<\/p>\n
Zoning officer Jocelyn Aldan-Kapileo started her employment on May 7, while Verna Markub Babauta began serving as administrative assistant also yesterday.<\/p>\n
Aldan-Kapileo formerly worked with the Department of Public Lands, having served as resident compliance officer stationed in Pagan from August to November 2006 after which she was transferred to the Planning Division as administrative assistant until August 2010.<\/p>\n
She described her work at Zoning as \u201cmore challenging\u201d and looks forward to getting familiarized with the zoning law to help her perform her duties and responsibilities as Zoning officer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all need to understand the importance of the zoning law,\u201d she told Saipan Tribune. \u201cThe Zoning Office is here to enforce the law to make the island of Saipan the best that it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n
Babauta, on the other hand, has worked in the private sector for over 30 years. Working as administrative assistant for the Zoning Office is her first job in the government. She also volunteered at the Garapan Community Development Center in between jobs.<\/p>\n
According to Babauta, it will be a \u201chuge challenge\u201d to go back to work again but she is \u201cexcited and happy\u201d to be on board the Zoning Office.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to dealing with zoning issues now that I\u2019m part of the office,\u201d added Babauta.<\/p>\n
Zoning administrator Therese T. Ogumoro introduced the two new staff to the board, saying that they are \u201cvery ready to learn and can\u2019t wait to do what they\u2019re supposed to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Board member Herman P. Sablan noted the need to send Zoning staff off-island for professional development which can be funded through federal grants.<\/p>\n
Although no off-island trainings are available at the moment, Ogumoro said it will be a \u201cpriority.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
