{"id":161939,"date":"2012-06-12T20:33:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-12T20:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bfbdacfc-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2012-06-12T20:33:00","modified_gmt":"2012-06-12T20:33:00","slug":"bfbdad0d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/bfbdad0d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary nixes hosting games at LibDay fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rotary Club of Saipan yesterday agreed to decline the invitation to organize the gambling activities at the 2012 Liberation Day festivities.<\/p>\n<p>About 30 Rotarians agreed with the decision, citing many reasons, including Rotary\u2019s own statutes and its upcoming fundraising event, the Las Vegas Night. <\/p>\n<p>Club Service director Jay Santos had been contacted by the Lt. Governor\u2019s Office, requesting the Rotary to organize the gambling activities for this year\u2019s Liberation Day celebration, which starts on June 28 and concludes on July 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will organize all the gambling games and split the proceeds with the Mayor\u2019s Office,\u201d Santos told fellow Rotarians.<\/p>\n<p>Santos noted that the request sought was for expertise and equipment for gambling activities such as roulette and blackjack and not for financial commitment.<\/p>\n<p>Rotarians David Igitol and David Sablan both pointed out that Rotary bylaws do not allow the organization to raise funds and split proceeds with government or private entities.
