David<br \/>\nReporter<\/div>\n<p>Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores is appealing to the Senate to provide his office enough funding to allow him to retain his 48 full-time employees.<\/p>\n<p>Flores said he would like to retain all 48 FTEs at the Mayor&#8217;s Office to serve the needs of his constituents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need all 48 FTEs because we&#8217;re already short of staff as it is,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune after he signed Wednesday the proclamation designating September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.<\/p>\n<p>In his proposed 2012 budget submission, Flores asked for $1,245.024 for personnel costs, which cover the salaries of 48 FTEs.<\/p>\n<p>The governor&#8217;s proposed budget, however, only approved 38 FTEs and a budget of $756,088 for personnel costs.<\/p>\n<p>According to Flores, these FTEs are particularly needed for the implementation of the dog control program and the delivery of other public services to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that the government is tight with money. But all I&#8217;m asking is for the Senate to at least maintain the status quo on our budget,\u201d said the mayor.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate is expected to act this week on the $102-million budget passed by the House of Representatives last week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Clarissa V.
