Northern Marianas Badminton Association is donating over $2,000 dollars to the victims of supertyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines.<\/p>\n
The donation came from the association\u2019s fundraising drive last Wednesday and Friday at the TSL Sports Complex. NMBA general secretary Merlie Tolentino said the association got $1,261 from its over 100 members and the group is matching the amount so the total donation of $2,522 will be turned over to Sagip Kapamilya, a foundation established by the Philippines\u2019 TV network giant ABS-CBN.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would like to thank our members for responding to our call to help the victims of supertyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines,\u201d said Tolentino.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe join the rest of the world in helping the Philippines in its relief efforts and pray that the victims will get the enough help they need to recover from this crisis,\u201d the NMBA official added.
\nSupertyphoon Haiyan hit the Philippines (particularly the Eastern Visayas region) early this month, leaving more than 5,000 dead and millions of families homeless.<\/p>\n
Tolentino said the donation will be deposited to the Sagip Kapamilya account next week.<\/p>\n
The fundraising drive for the typhoon victims was part of NMBA\u2019s commitment to community service. In the past years, the association also sent donation to the victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The group also made in-kind\/monetary donations to schools and some non-profit organizations.<\/p>\n
