{"id":174395,"date":"2013-12-10T20:26:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T20:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c2746b83-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2013-12-10T20:26:00","modified_gmt":"2013-12-10T20:26:00","slug":"c2746b94-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/c2746b94-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Application for SI-NMI Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards still open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Soroptimist International Northern Mariana Islands is accepting applications for its Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards until this Sunday, Dec.15, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The grant gives $1,000 to the winning applicant and is open to women who want to improve their job skills through education and training.<\/p>\n<p>The local organization\u2019s president, Jill Arenovski, said those interested must accomplish an application form and provide two references and email it to sinorthernmarianaislands@soroptimist.net. So far, the club has received 12 applications but would like to get more.<\/p>\n<p>Arenovski said the group already distributed flyers and some application forms during the recent Cash for College event of the Northern Marianas College. <\/p>\n<p>She said they received a lot of inquiries at the event and phone calls asking about the Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards in the days since then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to entice more applicants to submit their applications. Hopefully we\u2019ll get a lot of applicants because it\u2019s a great opportunity for women here. We\u2019re really thrilled to have this grant here on Saipan,\u201d said Arenovski.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards is a program that helps women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects.<\/p>\n<p>The award may be used to offset any costs associated with efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, and transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Chartered last Oct. 27, Soroptimist International Northern Mariana Islands currently has 18 members.
