The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management and Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., have issued a smoke advisory in response to a fire located at the old L&T garment factory in Lower Base and adjacent to a junkyard with old tires and other plastic materials.<\/p>\n
Due to the particulate matter contained in the smoke generated from the fire, the potential for air pollution exists.<\/p>\n
The CHCC Division of Public Health is issuing the following health advisory for people who have respiratory condition.<\/p>\n
– People who have asthma, emphysema or bronchitis- should stay indoors (except for purpose of evacuating) close their windows and minimize outdoors activities.<\/p>\n
– People who are experiencing symptom of respiratory distress should seek medical care immediately.<\/p>\n
– Anyone who is concerned about the smoke may choose to stay indoors as well.<\/p>\n
Residents of Lower Base, Western Garapan all the way to Micro Beach and surrounding area should continue to monitor local news for future advisories from the Division of Public Health.<\/p>\n
