The Northern Marianas Humanities Council has produced a series of panel discussions on Article 12 that will air on KSPN Channel 2 starting this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cArticle 12: Land Ownership in the Northern Mariana Islands\u201d is moderated by Robert T. Torres and consists of three one-hour panel discussions focusing on Article 12 of the CNMI Constitution. <\/p>\n
The series aims to provide an informed and objective presentation of facts and a variety of viewpoints relating to land alienation in the CNMI. <\/p>\n
Although there is no way to cover all of the complexities of Article 12 in a three-hour program, the council said this series provides basic information that will hopefully encourage viewers to discuss and consider this important topic with their families, friends, and colleagues. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is intended for anyone wishing to learn more about the history, effects, and possible future of Article 12.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first part of the three-part series is titled \u201cThe Foundation\u201d and the panelists include Marianas Political Status Commission members Vicente N. Santos and Pedro A. Tenorio.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Foundation\u201d looks at the history of the provision that limits land ownership in the CNMI to persons of Northern Marianas descent. It aired starting 6:30pm last night but will have replays on KSPN Channel 2 on Jan. 7 and 8, at the same time.<\/p>\n
The second part of the series is titled \u201cToday’s Perspective\u201d and panelists include Lorenzo DLG Cabrera, Rep. George N. Camacho, and Saipan Chamber of Commerce president Alex A. Sablan.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday’s Perspective\u201d will look at the impacts of Article 12 today and will air on KSPN Channel 2 at 6:30pm on Jan. 13, 14, and 15, 2014.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Future\u201d will be the third and last part of the series. Panelists are Vincent J. Seman, Carolyn P. Hosono, and House vice speaker Francisco S. Dela Cruz<\/p>\n
Part three of the series looks at the future Article 12 and will air on KSPN Channel 2 at 6:30pm on Jan. 20, 21, and 22, 2014.<\/p>\n
