Soroptimist International of Mariana Islands will be organizing a truffle-making class on Monday, Jan. 13, from 6pm to 8pm at a still unnamed venue.<\/p>\n
Hyatt Regency Saipan pastry sous chef Shawn Sweeney has volunteered to teach members of the group the intricacies of candy making in time for next month\u2019s celebration of Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n
According to the local Soroptimist International group\u2019s newsletter, the class will entail truffles, including some ways to change flavors by adding other ingredients. <\/p>\n
Sweeney will also be providing recipes that would allow members to make truffles at home. Participants also get to take home a small box of truffles to enjoy.<\/p>\n
The truffle-making class is limited to 20 participants and children are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent if under age 12.<\/p>\n
The venue for the class will be decided at a meeting today at the 2nd floor conference room of the Family Building, where Xerox and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce are located. <\/p>\n
In related news, the group\u2019s president Jill Arenovski said they would announce the winner of their Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards before the month ends.<\/p>\n
The Women\u2019s Opportunity Awards are open to women who want to improve their job skills through education and training.<\/p>\n
The award may be used to offset any costs associated with efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, and transportation.<\/p>\n
Soroptimist International is a global women\u2019s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.<\/p>\n
