{"id":175481,"date":"2014-01-29T22:32:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-29T22:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c2a99993-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2014-01-29T22:32:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-29T22:32:00","slug":"c2a999a7-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/c2a999a7-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"53 instructors at NMC for spring term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas College disclosed yesterday that despite some unfilled vacancies in the instructional faculty positions, there remains a good number of instructors that have been hired for this new semester.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Merfalen, NMC dean of Academic Programs and Services, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that NMC has a total of 53 instructors to date. This pool is composed of 31 full-time faculty and 22 adjunct faculty members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to fill key instructor positions prior to the start of the semester, and classes are progressing well into the second week of instruction,\u201d said Merfalen, adding that she\u2019s extremely glad about the high level of interest that the college received in response to instructor recruitment efforts.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of instructor vacancies, however, within the Nursing and the School of Education departments that are currently in the process of being filled.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe are at the interview stages of these vacancies and expect to conclude the hiring process soon,\u201d said Merfalen.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, all instructors teaching at NMC meet or exceed the minimum faculty qualifications policy that was adopted last year in response to the recommendation by the External Evaluation Team of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior College.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the newly approved policy, NMC will give primary consideration to the highest earned degree in the discipline that the faculty member will teach.<\/p>\n<p>NMC reported that it has about 1,101 full-time students as of Jan. 29, 2014.
