{"id":175557,"date":"2014-02-03T20:48:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T20:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c2aafd5f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2014-02-03T20:48:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-03T20:48:00","slug":"c2aafd70-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/c2aafd70-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary wants to use natural materials for Kagman park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rotary Club of Saipan\u2019s Rotary Healthy Living Family Park project is progressing smoothly, according to the civic organization\u2019s community services director Dennis Yoshimoto during last week\u2019s meeting of the local Rotary Club at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a long name but it has a long history. Right now we\u2019re at the design phase and we\u2019re looking at various concepts. We\u2019re leaning toward use of natural materials rather than shipping materials from off island,\u201d he said when asked by Rotary Club president Laila Y. Boyer to provide an update on the club\u2019s $60,000 community project.<\/p>\n<p>Yoshimoto said once completed it will be a good place for community members\u2014especially those living in Kagman\u2014to exercise as well as socialize with family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to encourage families to live healthy and exercise outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rotary Club broke ground on the Rotary Healthy Living Family Park project early last November in the presence of Rotary district governor Isako Funaki and other dignitaries from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, not even a month after the groundbreaking, the daok tree seedling the club planted to sort of commemorate the building of the park was stolen.<\/p>\n<p>Daok trees are abundant on the island and are known for their shading capability\u2014the main reason the club chose to plant the seedling on the site. <\/p>\n<p>The tree specie\u2019s wood is also hard and is of excellent quality and is used to make boats, timber, carabao carts, and large canoes.
