The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards.<\/p>\n
This event, held annually in October as a part of CNMI Humanities Month, recognizes outstanding contributions to the humanities by individuals and organizations in the community.<\/p>\n
Nominees should have a notable humanities achievement in the past year, as demonstrated in any of the following four categories: Research and Publication in the Humanities; Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Preservation of CNMI History; and Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in both classroom and non-classroom settings).<\/p>\n
A fifth category, Lifetime Achievement, recognizes significant contributions to the humanities over multiple decades. This award may be given posthumously.<\/p>\n
The 2013 awardees included Dr. Kurt Barnes, Research and Publication in the Humanities; Rosanna P. Barcinas, Preservation of CNMI History; Donald B. Mendiola and Bryan Manabat, Outstanding Humanities Teachers; and Professor Marjorie Driver, Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities.<\/p>\n
Nomination forms and instructions are available at the Council\u2019s office in the Springs Plaza Building, Gualo Rai, or on the council website at www.nmihumanities.org.
\nNominations may be made by any member of the general public and are due no later than 4:30pm on Friday, Oct. 10.<\/p>\n
Awards will be presented during a special ceremony to be held in late October.
