{"id":176059,"date":"2014-08-11T04:00:32","date_gmt":"2014-08-10T18:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=176059"},"modified":"2014-08-11T04:00:32","modified_gmt":"2014-08-10T18:00:32","slug":"saipan-lawmakers-ok-funeral-homes-ck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/saipan-lawmakers-ok-funeral-homes-ck\/","title":{"rendered":"Saipan lawmakers OK funeral homes in CK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By a vote of 20-0 with one absence, the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation passed Friday a local bill amending the Saipan Zoning Law of 2013 to allow funeral homes in Chalan Kanoa.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Ray Tebuteb\u2019s (Ind-Saipan) House Local Bill 18-55 now goes to the governor for action.<\/p>\n<p>The bill amends the zoning law to include funeral homes as a conditional use in village commercial zoning districts.<\/p>\n<p>Tebuteb said the Borja Funeral Homes, currently in Oleai, is proposing to move to the former Carmen\u2019s Baby News Store in Chalan Kanoa. The plan is to build a funeral home or crematorium at the new location.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation listened to the concerns of members of the public about the bill and the development of funeral homes in Chalan Kanoa and in the end, the delegation passed the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Bank of Saipan, Triple J, and Sandy Beach Homes expressed opposition to the zoning law amendment bill to allow funeral homes in Chalan Kanoa.
