Rory J. Respicio sent a follow\u2010up letter to the Guam Election Commission (GEC) requesting that they provide an update on its procedures to ensure that the in\u2010office ballots for the upcoming election are protected and tamper\u2010proof.<\/p>\n<p>Respicio is the chairman of the Committee on Rules; Federal, Foreign &#038; Micronesian Affairs; Human &#038; Natural Resources; and Election Reform. He wrote a letter on Aug. 4, 2014 to GEC executive director Maria Pangelinan expressing his concerns, and requesting an update on the commission\u02b9s procedures regarding the in\u2010office ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Respicio sent a follow up letter this morning requesting Pangelinan to respond to his concerns as chairman with oversight on Guam elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sure you share my concerns that we have to assure the public that the election process remains free and fair, as a result of the considerable amount of controversy relative to the security and sanctity of the ballots surrounding the 2010 General Election,\u201d Respicio said. \u201cSpecifically, the almost 4,000 early voting or in\u2010office ballots remain questionable, as even post audits conducted by GEC revealed that there were no internal controls to securing these ballots, as well as GEC\u2019s inability to account for how many ballots were actually printed for the 2010 General Election.\u201d In the letter, Respicio noted, \u201cI continue to express my sincere concern that all election laws be followed and that that<\/p>\n<p>there is proper accountability in this process.\u201d <strong>(PR)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guam Sen.
