Over $1 million worth of renovations to the facilities of Northern Marianas College have been planned, are ongoing, or have been completed on the islands of Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, according to a NMC Facilities Report prepared this month.<\/p>\n
The report\u2014dated Aug. 12\u2014cites a number of $1.13 million in renovations from both local and federal funds, which are designated into either long-term or short-term projects.<\/p>\n
One long-term project, the renovation of the college\u2019s Building K, was completed this month to replace its termite-damaged roof and gut its interior, among other upgrades.<\/p>\n
On Saipan, short-term projects completed\u2014since a facility project listing updated in 2013\u2014were the rehabilitation of breezeways at NMC\u2019S building J\/K, H\/I, and B\/C, a building Q retrofit for its community development offices and classrooms, and replacement of facia at buildings G, J, and H.<\/p>\n
Rota\u2019s NMC facility now has LED lighting installed through the use of $30,000 in ARRA funds as well as four refurbished classrooms that can accommodate 45 persons each. Other refurbished sites include a computer lab, accommodating 15 people, and a video teleconference room, accommodating 45.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Tinian campus has had its block bathroom renovated, while ongoing upgrades include installation of smoke alarms and LED lighting, replacement of exterior lighting fixtures, and repair and repainting of doors and jambs, among other upgrades.<\/p>\n
Facility upgrades are part of the college\u2019s facilities master plan approved in 2011. Projects are overseen by the college\u2019s facilities planning committee, which has been tasked with procuring funding for long-term projects.<\/p>\n
For the college\u2019s Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services projects listed under the report include establishing a water distribution system from the college\u2019s aquaculture facility to its Building G\u2019s food science kitchen, among other upgrades and repairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
