{"id":178136,"date":"2014-09-03T04:00:26","date_gmt":"2014-09-02T18:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=178136"},"modified":"2014-09-03T04:00:26","modified_gmt":"2014-09-02T18:00:26","slug":"house-resolution-honors-chamorro-carolinian-cultures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/house-resolution-honors-chamorro-carolinian-cultures\/","title":{"rendered":"House resolution honors Chamorro, Carolinian cultures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In observance of Cultural Heritage Month in September, the House of Representatives adopted a resolution giving special recognition to the CNMI\u2019s two distinct and unique cultural heritage: Chamorro and Carolinian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach distinct culture defines who the indigenous people of the Northern Mariana Islands are and is deeply rooted, valued, and treasured,\u201d House Resolution 18-61, authored by Rep. Felicidad Ogumoro (R-Saipan), reads.<\/p>\n<p>Every September, the CNMI observes Cultural Heritage Month, providing a framework for cultural activities, a time to display the unique and attractive aspects of these respective and valuable cultures, and to strengthen, preserve, and ensure they are passed on to future generations.<\/p>\n<p>Among these events is a day set aside to honor Chief Aghurubw on Sept. 27, and all traditional chiefs, magalahis and samwools.  Every year, the community celebrates Chief Aghurubw Day on Managaha Island, also a tourism gem.<\/p>\n<p>Another one is a moment of silence in honor of the 13 fishermen who perished at sea in September 1986.
